How To Model A Continuous Beam With Varying Depth

Modelling continuous beams with different depths can be done with reference to this video.

The summary of steps are :

  1. Model axes to be used as insertion points for the beams.

  2. Model separate beams using the e-z (h-top) property to adjust the elevation of the beams

  3. Remove the cantilever marks by setting both ends as supported to ensure the beams are designed as continuous.

Refer to the Method 1 in this article:
How to raise or drop a beam in elevation  for more details of how to change the elevation of the beam by using e-z (h-top).

Since the continuous beams with varying depth is modeled using two or more beams, the deflection check result shown in the Beam Section Design will not be valid, as the check is done for each separate beam.
Hence, it is advisable that user perform additional deflection check as deem fit.
