How To Model Slanting Inclined Column

A column can only be inserted at the intersection of 2 axes which forms a node or joint.

When a column is inserted, the top and bottom of the column will use the same node.  To model a slanting or inclined column, an additional node (intersection of axes) must be available.

We will use a simple table top model to demonstrate this.

For this model, we would like to slant the column 2C1.

  1. Create any new axis to create additional axes intersection  (which will be the new insertion point for the bottom of the column)
  2.  Select Column > Right-click > Properties

Labels of the reference axes will be displayed in “Top” and “Bottom” fields.  By default, both will have the same axes – hence the column is vertical. To slant / incline the column, the “Top” or “Bottom” reference axis must be changed.

  1. Select the column and right click "Properties".
  2. Click the icon , then click the intersection of the axis that the bottom of the column will be placed.
  3. Press “Update” button  > Check the 3D view to see if column inclination is done as desired.

Bot Insertion Point

Bot Insertion Point” button is to change the bottom insertion point of the column/wall (next to ‘Bottom’ axes fields)

For this purpose, pick the appropriate axis intersection on plan or 3D window after you clicked on the “Bot Insertion Point button.
